Attended mass at the church of San Froillen  tonight. According to tradition St. James had a vision of St. Mary who told him to throw a stone and where the stone landed a church was to be built. Lovely sanctuary. Mass on Tues took a whole 20 minutes.

29 Oct.   Arzua to A Rua. 16.8 km It occurred to me yesterday by my lack of photographs, that I have begun to take the beauty of this place for granted. Just like day after day I wearied of the brown meseta, The beauty of Galicia has begun to seem so familiar as not to warrant a second glance. I wonder how often we do that in everyday life—so take for granted the beauty around us that we do not notice it. So today I did my best to see this place for all the wonder it possesses. The landscape is gradually changing, giving way to woods.  We walked through beautifully scented eucalyptus groves dappled with sunlight. The music of the cowbells and the crowding of roosters added today the grunting of pigs. It was like the children’s song, “All God’s Critters got a Place in the Choir.” There was also the added tapping of more trekking poles as the number of pilgrims has increased. Just a few more days. One more trip to EMS to return stuff I overbought--jacket and fleece are probably over kill. One more trip to pick up a journal, chapstick, garbage bag.  The garbage bag is to pack the backpack so it doesn't get damaged in t a sit. Apparently I'll wrap it with a lot of duct tape. That will keep the straps safe. This is what the nice man at Field and Stream told me. I'm really going to do this. Thanks to my son in laws and my brother in law, Stewart I have the technology I'll need to stay in touch. Yay. I'm excited for what is ahead. These two weeks of prep took an interesting turn. I made a quick trip to see Brkki and do a few things to help her get ready to move to Holden Village with Marcus. I started a stole for Marcus. We celebrated my father in laws 90th birthday. In traveling to PA, I revisited the church in which I was baptized and confirmed and saw some extended family for a few moments. All in all an emotional rollercoaster. It s

3 Nov. Santiago to Madrid Goodbye Santiago. Goodbye Camino. It will take me a lifetime to sort out all that I have learned in these 40 some days. I will be eternally grateful for this time with my father.  For the conversations we have had.  For the ways we have learned to live together.  For the difficultities we have had.  For the laughs we have shared.  For the people we have met. This has been an amazing journey and I am sad to see it come to an end.  For, whatever else I have learned, I have witnessed the best of humanity and it has restored my hope. There is an intrinsic goodness in humanity—perhaps the goodness of God that was placed in Adam and Eve at their creation. Even today, a horrible travel day that I hate so much, we were reunited with pilgrims we met earlier and a goodness was noted in the people even in line for security. This is what I hope to carry forward in my life. Buen Camino
